The Girls
Three stage actresses starring in Aristophanes’ classic play Lysistrata start to draw parallels with their own lives in Mai Zetterling’s feminist comedy.
Director: Mai Zetterling
Overview
1968. Men are in charge and the world is burning. A travelling theatre company takes a production of Lysistrata on tour and it’s not long before the cast start seeing their own lives and relationships through fresh eyes. Zetterling’s riff on Aristophanes’ play revealed that little had changed in society since it was written. Simone de Beauvoir loved it.
