Étienne is barely twenty when he falls in love with Valérie, and hardly older when their daughter Rosa is born. When Valérie leaves, abandoning them, Étienne chooses not to make a big deal of it, and they build a happy life together. Sixteen and a half years later, as father and daughter go their separate ways, each to pursue their own lives, the past resurfaces.
