Overview
All the riches of MGM combine to celebrate the most spectacular of the Broadway revues. Kelly and Astaire dance together, Esther Williams swims, there's Lena Horne and Fanny Brice, puppets and opera. Amidst the sumptuousness there are also characteristic traits of director Vincente Minnelli - a rather sinister undertow to the numbers for Astaire and Lucille Bremer, for instance - and wonderful Virginia O'Brien sending up the Follies' raison d'être by calling for some show-boys.
