What devices can I use to access BFI Player?

You can access the service on desktop, iPad and Android tablets, mobile devices and Samsung Smart TVs dating from 2013.

What operating system and browser do I need?

Operating systems

  • Mac OS X
  • Windows 7 or above
  • Windows 10 with Flash enabled
  • Android mobile and tablet running Jelly Bean (4.1) with Hook app
  • iPad 5th generation or newer running iOS 8.0 or above with our BFI Player app
  • iPhone iOS 8.0 or above with our BFI Player app

Browsers

  • Chrome (version 46 or above)
  • Internet Explorer (version 10 or above)
  • Edge (version 12.1 or above)
  • Safari (version 8 or above)
  • Firefox (version 42 or above)

For desktop browsers you will need the latest version of Adobe Flash installed.

BFI Player is not optimised for earlier browser versions and may not function correctly.

What internet connection speed do I need?

We offer adaptive bitrate for playback that automatically adjusts to your internet connection speed. Buffering or pixilation however may occur on slow internet connections below 10Mbps.

I've paid for a film but it's not working.

Why can’t I watch BFI Player from outside the UK?

BFI Player is currently only available to users in the UK due to content licensing restrictions.

What is the BFI Members’ discount and who is eligible?

BFI Members get 15% discount on all film rentals. Here's how to register for your discount:

Please SIGN IN, go to ACCOUNT, and enter your membership details in the PROFILE section. Your discount will be automatically applied with each purchase.

Not a BFI Member?

Join now, then enter your membership details when you register for BFI Player. Please note, it can take up to 48 hours for new members to be validated on BFI Player.

I am a BFI Player Plus subscriber, do I qualify for membership discounts?

BFI Membership is not the same as a BFI Player Plus subscription. Only BFI Members are eligible for 15% discount on film rentals. Learn more about the full benefits to becoming a BFI Member.

What do I do if I get a black screen when I try to playback?

In order to watch BFI Player you need to have the latest version of Adobe Flash installed.

I am getting a DRM authorisation error, how do I resolve this?

Can I download films on BFI Player?

No, you can only stream films on BFI Player.

Why do some films cost more?

Where we are premiering a film on BFI Player the same day as it's released in cinemas the pricing reflects the added value of this immediate availability.
