Royal Cowes Regatta
High society and the royal couple celebrate Cowes Week, 1922.
Overview
Inaugurated in 1820 by the Prince Regent, Cowes Regatta is historically a royal affair. This (slightly damaged) Topical Budget newsreel item shows King George V and Queen Mary continuing the Isle of Wight tradition. A glimpse of the couple descending from the royal yacht is cut between majestic scenes of yachts on open water, promoting Cowes as a glamorous playground for the gentleman yachtsman.
