Overview

Two children stray into a forest, find themselves in front of the witch's gingerbread house, are taken prisoner and narrowly escape with their lives. Animator Lotte Reiniger was obliged to change the original ending of the Grimms' tale - in which the witch is consigned to the oven intended for the children - as the producers, refugees from Germany, thought it uneasily reminiscent of the Holocaust.
