Overview

A realistic recreation of life as a prisoner of war in Germany (filmed on location in a genuine POW camp) lends credence to this absorbing account of wartime survival.

Michael Redgrave excels under Basil Dearden’s assured direction as a colonel in the Czech army who, after escaping from a concentration camp, adopts the identity of a dead British officer to fool the Nazis on his tail. But can he maintain this pretence in a British POW camp? Gripping and moving in equal measure.
