Prince Henry's Visit to Denmark

A state visit to Copenhagen yields gorgeous images of Rosenborg Castle, captured from the water.

Non-Fiction 1914 1 mins Silent

Overview

These impressive views of Copenhagen's Rosenborg castle were captured from the water, just offshore from the Danish capital, during a state visit from Prince Henry of the Netherlands (consort to Queen Wilhelmina). There's a dramatic shot of a warship firing a welcoming salute before the prince disembarks his steam launch at the steps of Rosenborg amid a flurry of flags and waiting officials.

State visits and royal occasions - both domestic and foreign - were a staple of British newsreels like Topical Budget. Among the other stories featured in this July 1914 edition were the King's visit to a Clyde shipyard and the Princess Royal laying a foundation stone at Marylebone Town Hall.
