Overview

This packed newsreel has a dauntingly international flavour, demonstrating just how global the war had become even in its first year. An impressive display by the Bombay Light Horse opens the proceedings. Other stories include a troop of French African soldiers in Marseille, a Canadian platoon at Harwich in the Scottish borders, and a review of (still neutral) America's fleet by President Wilson and a memorial for the fallen. Items on a floral festival in Borghese, Italy, and a bridge engineering feat remind us that life went on away from the battlefield.

The Bombay Light Horse, at the time part of the Indian Volunteer Force, was never mobilised during WWI (or WWII), but some members did enlist to fight. It subsequently became part of the Indian Defence Force and then the Auxiliary Force (India).
