When Harry met Carole
Love is the score for tennis doubles partners Carole Rosser and Harry Matheson
From the collection of:
Overview
Of course the score is love! Women's tennis professional Carole Rosser marries her Scottish doubles partner Harry Matheson at St Leonard's Church in her hometown of Exeter. They leave the ceremony under an arch of wooden and gut string tennis racquets befitting two tennis champions. This is a take on a traditional guard of honour for service personnel with sabres or swords replaced with racquets. They happily top spin off into their future.
Not such a terrible call. Carole was known for having a competitive spirit on court and partnered Scotsman Harry winning the Scottish Hard Court Championships in 1963, 1965 and 1966. After her marriage Carole went into coaching and in 1983 was appointed at Whitcraigs in Scotland. Harry and Carole's son Ross Matheson went on to play professional tennis and manage the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) at Wimbledon. Game, set, match.
