Turn Out of the Newcastle Fire Brigade (1901)

Glistening brass and galloping horses thrill the crowds at a municipal Fire Brigade drill.

Non-Fiction 1901 2 mins Silent

Overview

In this carefully choreographed film, a stage-managed crowd is directed around the spectacular turnout and return of the Municipal Fire Brigade, whose headquarters were on Westgate Road until 1933. The making of the film was an event in itself, and helps explain the large audience and the presence of so many local dignitaries, clearly visible in both of the film's two shots.
