Mining Review 4th Year No. 12

Miners' lives and labours in Lanarkshire, Leicestershire and South Wales.

Industry sponsored film 1951 10 mins

Overview

This is another supreme issue of the British coal industry's premier cinemagazine. Two delightful stories showcasing miners' lives and labours - Festival of Britain celebrations in Shotts, Lanarkshire, and a family foxhunt in Cwmgwrach, South Wales - bookend the issue's main story: how new machinery operating deep beneath the Leicestershire countryside is chewing up coal seams at record rates.

As is often the way in Mining Review, this issue is a bit of a 'coal sandwich': a couple of stories covering community activities butter the bread - but it's in the filler where the national significance of developments in technology or policy and their potential impacts on labour relations are digested.
