Overview
On 28 November 1899 a column of British troops ran into entrenched Boer forces on the banks of the River Modder. After a lot of gunfire and many casualties on the British side, the Boers withdrew overnight, halting the British advance for 10 days while it evacuated causalities and awaited reinforcements. As this film was reportedly taken by John Benett-Stanford on 8 December 1899, it likely shows General Lord Methuen's column heading on for more punishment at the Battle of Magersfontein.
