Overview

Fantastic vintage planes dominate this short amateur film shot at the 'Hendon Lives Again' revival of the famous RAF Pageants that were held at that aerodrome in the 1930s. Staged in Old Warden, Biggleswade, the day included re-enactment events of pre-1914 and featured aircraft from the interwar period including the Roe IV triplane as seen in the 1964 film Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines.

Various monoplanes, biplanes and triplanes are visible, including the Miles Magister two-seater trainer aircraft, a German biplane and the Roe IV triplane which was retired in 1911. A replica of the latter was built in the 1960s for the film Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines and is seen here taking off. This film is from the collection of Harrow Local History Library, a member of the London's Screen Archives Network.
