Overview
This intriguing 1914 event at Sandy Lodge, Hertfordshire, saw golf revisiting its own golden past. Famous golfers of the day compared the modern, rubber-cored ball with the sap-covered 'gutty' style that had revolutionised the game in the 1850s. The massive crowds and newsreel camera crew following the game show that nostalgia captured the imagination, even in the 'good old days'.
