Fire Fighters in Hyde Park

George V and Queen Mary swap flowers for medals at an annual Fire Brigade display in Hyde Park.

Overview

Despite all those polished belt buckles, buttons and helmets, the newsreel cameramen prefer to focus on the royal guests rather than the firemen's parade in this story from July 1914. At first the camera isn't best placed to capture the King himself, but it does do justice to the well-practised curtseys of two young flower girls on what was perhaps the biggest day of their young lives.
