Overview

Westward TV’s Chris Fear commentates the highlights of local side Exeter City against Aston Villa in a match held at St. James’ Park in Exeter on 31 August 1977. The tie finishes with Aston Villa winning by three goals to one. Chris Fear ends his commentary with “Little and Gray were sheer magic”. Brian Little and Andy Gray team up to produce three goals for Villa, two of which are scored by Gray. Aston Villa won the League Cup in 1975 and 1977.

Aston Villa is based in Witton, Birmingham and formed in 1874 by Jack Hughes, Frederick Matthews, Walter Price and William Scattergood. The team plays at Villa Park and has won titles including the 1981-82 European Cup, the First Division Championship seven times, the FA Cup seven times, and the Football League Cup five times. The club was one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. Exeter City was formed from two clubs Exeter United and St. Sidwell’s, after a match where Exeter United lost 3-1, the teams decided to join and become Exeter City in 1904. They play at St. James’ Park and are owned by the Exeter City Supporters’ Trust.
