Employees Leaving Williamson's Factory, Lancaster (1901)

Lancastrian workers spill out of a huge textile factory.

Non-Fiction 1901 2 mins Silent

Overview

Men and boys (and the odd smartly-dressed girl) leave the place of their toil, the monolithic Williamson's Factory pictured in the background. While most depart on foot or bicycle, a few weary souls catch a ride from a passing horse and cart. Established in the 1840s, the successful Williamson family business specialised in the manufacture of coated fabrics, including linoleum and oilcloth.
