Douglas Harbour Paddle Steamer (1902)

Welcoming crowds greet the arrival of a steamer to the Isle of Man, seen from a stunning perspective on deck.

Non-Fiction 1902 2 mins Silent

Overview

The movement of the boat, the angle of the camera towards the jetty, and the extraordinary depth of field on this shot all add up to a spectacular view of arrival at the port of Douglas, with an almost stereoscopic, 3D effect. It was most likely filmed on the occasion of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra's visit to the Isle of Man, which features in two other Mitchell and Kenyon films.
