Overview

By 1987 the textile manufacturers of Nottingham were having to persuade young people to enter the industry. Gone were the days when women automatically entered the trade and put up with the low pay, repetitive work and long hours. With the women of Sri Lanka offering to do the same work for a pound a day what future does the industry have? As is seen in a fantasy sequence in this downbeat Central Television film the desire to throw it all out of the window is a very real one.
