Overview

The pit may be exhausted and even though many of the men have found jobs elsewhere there is still an air of emotion surrounding the demise of the coal mine. As the last shift ends, George Ward, pit manager at Cannock Wood Colliery, explains with pride, to ATV Today reporter Bob Warman, how fifty million tonnes of coal have been hauled to the surface at Cannock Wood since it opened in 1864.
