Anti-smoking Campaign: Artery

A longer version of the famously icky anti-smoking promo in which cigarettes ooze fat.

2003 1 mins

Overview

The memorably revolting anti-smoking promo is presented here in a slightly longer variant (the shorter cut, 'Artery Clogged' is also on BFI Player). Aiming to imprint in viewers' minds the correlation between smoking and the clogged arteries that can result from it, it shows various pub drinkers seemingly unconcerned that their cigarettes are dripping fat.

Thankfully this longer edit doesn't subject the viewer to any more of the grisly fat-oozing imagery, instead featuring a more drawn-out introduction. This government film is a public record, preserved and presented by the BFI National Archive on behalf of The National Archives, home to more than 1,000 years of British history.
