An Outing to Blackpool
A grand day out, as three generations of the Preston family enjoy a day at the seaside.
From the collection of:
Overview
Filmmaking brothers Sidney and Harold Preston present a beautifully shot record of time and place, taking us to the great Lancashire seaside resort in the interwar years. Whether enjoying the bird's eye view from the top of the tower, trying out the Pleasure Beach rides, or just befriending the donkeys on the beach, the three generations of the Preston family are clearly having a grand day out.
Sidney and Harold Preston, identical twins from Stockport, were skilled amateur filmmakers and transport enthusiasts, who began filming around the North West in the 1920s. They edited their footage into topical film newsreels, which they screened in the small news theatre at the family house in Bramhall to raise money for local charities. The preservation of this film was funded by a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund
