Overview

A miner explains to his young son and his pal that "Coalmining is now the greatest adventure of all time". He runs through some of the thrilling modern developments in underground mechanisation which are transforming the miner's job into an adventure - from state of the art trains carrying the miners to the coalface to the happily named joy loader which provides welcome assistance in transporting the coal to the surface.

The National Coal Board, established in 1947, made hundreds of films on various aspects of mining. This was one of many intended to encourage young lads to become miners. These recruitment films often focused on the modern and forward-thinking nature of the coal industry, as well as its long term career prospects.
