Walk Short Distances 1944

1 mins United Kingdom

This wartime public information trailer makes an observation about the need for personal sacrifice to help get Britain through the Second World War, especially in light of desperate fuel shortages. ‘Transport hog’ George selfishly rides the bus whilst other passengers are left waiting, prompting audiences to reflect on any doubts they might have about their own contribution to the war effort.

The IWM Film Archive is the oldest film archive in the UK, holding over 20,000 hours of film, video and digital material and covering the two World Wars and all conflicts involving British or Commonwealth Forces since the start of the Twentieth Century to the present. Our collection also reflects aspects of civilian life in wartime, military life in peacetime, military exercises and operations.
