Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) stars is this lavish wuxia based on elements from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Ibsen’s Ghosts. Crown Prince Wu Luan is in love with his own stepmother, the Empress of the Tang dynasty, a situated further complicated when his father dies and a despised uncle becomes Emperor. An opulent wedding banquet is called in which the various warring factions covertly plan to poison their way to power.
