Test Cricket: Australia V. England at Sydney 1932

10 mins Australia

It's a glorious Australian summer's day and the capacity crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground is enjoying the spectacle and the sunshine. It's the first Test of the 1932-33 tour of Australia and the English batsmen, including Herbert Sutcliffe and Robert Wyatt, are facing some stiff bowling from Clarence Grimmet and Lisle Nagel. Australian hopes and spirits would have been high at this point. Little did they know that they were to be part of probably the most famous/infamous sporting contest the cricketing world has ever seen: the Bodyline series. But this was yet to come.

With Australia's leading batsman Bradman not taking part in the first Test, England got the series off to a flying start, with Larwood the star player, taking 10 wickets for 124 runs.
