Smack and Thistle 1989

90 mins United Kingdom Director. Tunde Ikoli

Abel (Charlie Caine) is a young black wide-boy trying to go straight. But during his final heist he finds a rich young white girl, saves her from a heroin overdose, and begins to fall for her. Soon he’s drawn into a world of high-class crime far more sinister and serious than anything he encountered on the streets.

Both a perceptive tale of inter-racial romance and a crafty urban thriller, Smack and Thistle is a n unjustly forgotten British feature from a black director – Tunde Ikoli – who sadly hasn’t directed since.
