Shrub Hill Railway Station 1972

5 mins United Kingdom

They may be fighting a battle with dilapidated stock and old crumbling station buildings but the platform staff at Shrub Hill in Worcester have been named the most efficient in their region. As Sue Jay talks to the workforce we realise that it's their experience that counts, with many of the men having worked at the station since the 1940s. They know how to lug mail bags, slam doors, blow whistles and wave flags quicker than anywhere else.

The Media Archive for Central England is the public screen archive for the East and West Midlands. An independent charity and company based at the University of Lincoln, MACE acquires, catalogues, preserves and makes widely available moving image materials that inform our understanding of the diverse cultures and histories of communities between the Lincolnshire coast and the Welsh border.
