On Line into the Nineties 1987

26 mins United Kingdom

A short documentary for the 'Bygones' series, Anglia Television document the modernisations to the Great Eastern rail route, including electrification, a replacement to the great Trowse Swing Bridge at Norwich Thorpe – not an easy task, and a sophisticated control room at Colchester replacing many of the manually operated signal boxes. There are many hands and expert machinery on the job to improve rail services in East Anglia.

The East Anglian Film Archive, the first and largest Regional Film Archive in England, was established in 1976. Since 1984, EAFA has been owned and operated by the University of East Anglia, Norwich (UEA), to support research and work to preserve our moving image heritage. More than 250 hours are freely available online as examples of the wide range of film which attracts interest the world over.
