Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2004 15

108 mins USA Director. Michel Gondry

Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet play the couple who fall in love so quickly it seems they must have known each other in a past life ... only to discover they did, before they agreed to have their memories erased.

The romantic comedy is given a completely new, postmodern and mind-bending twist by the masters of meta-textual manipulation, Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry.

Kaufman’s ingenious script balances several different story arcs, flitting back and forth in time and between various characters. But while its narrative intricacies are ingenious, they’re backed up with visual invention by Gondry – and despite its cerebral edge the film retains an emotional core, largely due to the integrity of Carrey’s performance.
